These Terms (“Terms”) govern your use of ParcelPoint, operated in Kenya by Squared (“Squared”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). ParcelPoint provides two services (together, the “Service”): ParcelPoint Ship, an international parcel-forwarding service that brings your overseas purchases to Kenya, and ParcelPoint Lockers, a network of smart lockers you can rent for short-term storage. By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
ParcelPoint Ship
ParcelPoint Ship lets you buy from stores abroad and receive the items in Kenya. In outline:
- You shop online and ship your order to our partner warehouse in the origin country (currently the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and China).
- You register the shipment with us using the carrier tracking number from the seller. We notify the warehouse so they can match your parcel when it arrives.
- We consolidate, ship the parcel to Kenya, and clear it through customs on your behalf.
- Once it arrives, we deliver it to a ParcelPoint locker, to your door, or to an address you choose.
ParcelPoint Lockers
ParcelPoint Lockers are self-service smart lockers for short-term storage of personal items such as bags, documents, or luggage. You choose a location and locker size and open a locker with a one-time code. We offer two ways to pay:
- Prepaid: you pay upfront for a chosen period and collect your item within it.
- Postpaid: you store your item and pay for the time used when you retrieve it. The locker is released once the storage charge is paid.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account, register a shipment, or rent a locker.
Accounts and authentication
To use ParcelPoint Ship you create an account with your phone number and sign in with a one-time code sent to you by SMS. You are responsible for keeping your SIM, phone number, and device secure, and for the activity carried out under your account. Renting a locker does not require an account. Operator accounts, used by Squared staff, are provisioned by invitation and protected with additional authentication. Notify us immediately at hello@squared.co.ke if you suspect unauthorised access. We may suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms or applicable law.
Your responsibilities when shipping
- You must provide an accurate carrier tracking number and a truthful description and declared value of the goods. We rely on this information to identify your parcel and to clear it through customs.
- You are the importer of the goods. You are responsible for ensuring the items may lawfully be imported into Kenya, and for any duties, taxes, or regulatory charges that apply to them.
- Providing false or incomplete information may lead to delays, additional charges, seizure by the authorities, or refusal of service.
Customs, duties, and charges
We handle customs clearance for shipments on your behalf. Import duties, taxes, and any charges levied by the Kenya Revenue Authority or other authorities are passed on to you and added to your invoice. Where a parcel is held for clearance, we will tell you the reason and any additional charge before releasing it.
Pricing and payment
All payments are made in Kenyan Shillings (KES) via M-PESA.
- ParcelPoint Ship: you pay on arrival. There is no upfront payment to register a shipment. After your parcel reaches Kenya we send you a single invoice covering shipping, our handling, last-mile delivery, and any customs or clearance charges. We initiate an M-PESA prompt to your phone, and the parcel is released or delivered once payment is received.
- ParcelPoint Lockers (prepaid): you pay upfront to open a locker. Pricing depends on locker size and the storage period, and is shown before you pay. We initiate an M-PESA prompt to your phone, and the locker opens once payment is received. You can extend your rental by making a further payment.
- ParcelPoint Lockers (postpaid): you open a locker and pay for the time used when you retrieve your item. Pricing depends on locker size and the storage duration. We initiate an M-PESA prompt to your phone when you collect, and the locker is released once payment is received.
- Refunds for failed payments or for service we were unable to provide are issued at our discretion. Contact us within seven days if you believe you have been charged in error.
Delivery, holds, and uncollected items
- For ParcelPoint Ship, we make reasonable efforts to deliver within the estimated timeframe. Estimates are not guarantees, and customs clearance can take additional time.
- A parcel awaiting payment or clearance is held securely until it is resolved. We may return, dispose of, or surrender to the authorities any parcel that remains uncollected, unpaid, or held for an extended period, and any items that may not lawfully be imported.
- For ParcelPoint Lockers, items left beyond the paid storage period may be removed and held, and may be disposed of if they remain unclaimed. The Service is not insured cargo carriage; we hold items using reasonable security measures and are not liable for their contents or for indirect or consequential losses arising from their handling.
Prohibited and restricted items
You may not ship or store:
- Illegal items, controlled substances, weapons, or anything prohibited or restricted for import into Kenya.
- Hazardous materials (flammable, explosive, biological, radioactive, or corrosive).
- Perishable goods or live animals.
- Currency, precious metals, or negotiable instruments.
You may not interfere with, tamper with, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its hardware.
Intellectual property
The Service, its software, designs, and branding are owned by Squared. No licence to copy, modify, or redistribute is granted other than the limited right to use the Service as intended.
Claims and reporting
- Inspect your parcel or stored item when you collect it. Any loss, damage, or missing contents must be reported to us within seven days of collection. Claims made after this period will not be accepted.
- To make a claim, email hello@squared.co.ke with your tracking number or booking reference, a description of the problem, and clear photographs of the item and its packaging taken at collection.
- We may decline a claim where evidence is missing, where the item was declared inaccurately, or where the loss falls within the exclusions in these Terms.
Limitation of liability
The Service is not insured cargo carriage. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from your use of the Service is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. Any liability for a lost or damaged parcel or stored item is limited to its declared value and, in any case, to a maximum of KES 1,000 per claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Squared against claims arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.
Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted on this page; continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. The courts of Nairobi have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes, without prejudice to your right to bring a claim where you reside under applicable consumer-protection law.
